A Christmas Wedding

Just three days before Christmas, I had the honor to photograph Arlyn & Sarah's new life together. I've known Arlyn since he was in elementary school - he's my younger brother's age - and I was so excited when he called me this fall to tell me he'd found 'the one'. Sarah is a beautiful young woman and I'm so excited for Arlyn to have found such a wonderful girl. These are just a few shots from their day. Congratulations to both of you and I hope Hawaii was wonderful!!

Beautiful Sunrise

This morning as I dropped my daughter off at school, there was the most beautiful sunrise. The two of us looked up and it was just such a celetial image with the church steeple in the silhouette of the sunrise that only the good Lord could paint. I was so thankful I had my camera with me this morning and just HAD to take this picture and share it with you.

A Night with Frank Lloyd Wright

Frank Lloyd Wright (in case you didn't know) was a great designer of architechture. This week I'm at a workshop and staying at the only hotel he ever designed. I was really excited about the experience - until I had to stay here. First off, while the hotel is VERY old...it is quite nice and very classy. However, the design style of the room is well - interesting. Let me explain...

For instance...my room - NOT a typical hotel room. You might think a 'room' should be square or even perhaps a rectangle...NOT so here....

My room - is loosely based on a triangle....having well, let me count....9 - that's right NINE - different walls - just in the MAIN room!!!

My room is so narrow at the doorway - that I could NOT open the door, walk in and have my bag held at my side. I had to sort of configure my way in the room in a single file line, opening the door and dragging my shoulder bag behind me....NOT necessarily fun, but certainly a great talking point.

Now I love Wright's design style from a designers standpoint....great angles, great lines, great texture (oh, and by the way, this hotel is supposed to make you feel like you're inside a tree and completely included in nature). There are only 4 - yes - FOUR - hotel rooms on each floor. Each floor has 3 - yes THREE - small (one person, MAYBE two pepole elevators) on it - however as you'll quickly find out not each elevator goes to all of the same floors. Usually don't realize that until you're on one of the elevators that literally doesn't go all the way to the top floor.

This image - taken as I stand directly outside of my room - you can see two of the other hotel rooms across the way - where you see the lightswitch on the left, on the other side of that wall is one of the elevators - another is directly on my right imediately next to my door.

Ah, but wait...the bathrooms.....Again, based on a triangle - my bathroom has six separate walls.

(Here you can see three of the walls)... oh, and the towel racks - all copper tubing. One bonus - we have heated floors in the bathrooms! Very nice bonus - 90 degree heated floors when you step out onto a concrete floor out of the shower - VERY nice....

So...if you ever find yourself in Bartlesville, OK...be sure and take a spin at Price Towers - there is a museum with a tour available...even if you don't stay here - certainly worth a looksey!!

Christmas....early

I'm just nearly beside myself today - I've been searching ebay for a vintage Barbie cottage and today, I finally found and bought one!!! I had the exact same thing when I was a little girl - got it for Christmas when I was 6!!! It was one of the most memorable holiday's I can remember as child. This Christmas, Kallie will get the same thing at nearly the same age. This isn't from Santa of course, but from mom and dad.

Kallie, is named after my very best friend, Sue Ann - Kallie Suanne. Sue Ann passed away the year before Kallie was born, but I always knew growing up that I'd name my daughter after her. In addition to heart problems, she also had a disease called Freedrick's Attaxia that left her confined to a wheelchair later in life. She wasn't supposed to live past 16, but beat the odds and lived to be 25 with her firey red-headed, stubborn, loving spirit. The two of use each LOVED Barbie stuff more than life itself and I had this very cottage until I was over 16 and handed it down to two little girls I used to babysit. Sue Ann's mom still has her Barbie house that her neice's get to play with now.

I tell Kal about her Aunt Sue Ann all the time and want her to know her and help me keep her memory alive and Kallie is such a girly girl that I knew she'd love something like this as much as I did as a kid. Luckily she can't read yet so she won't know she's getting this....but her daddy shared in my excitement and bought her some brand new furniture to go in her vintage cottage!!

It's like that Christmas when I was 6 all over again!! I think I'm probably more excited than she will be - well, until she see's it at least. Christmas is really the best time to have children and you get to watch their little faces just light up with such excitment and pure joy!! I just can't hardly wait for it to arrive here and I get to give it to her!!! I just had to share today!!
